What the Technical contact is and what they can do

The Technical contact isn't a role: it's an extra flag you can add to anyone on the team. It's used to designate who takes care of the account's technical setup. There can be more than one.

What they can do

  • Open Notion databases (in Settings): choose which Notion database each WorkOS section uses and which property does what. It only appears for Technical contacts: being the Owner isn't enough on its own.
  • See the Team screen and change other people's Role and Direct reports.

What they can't do

  • Add new people (only the Owner can).
  • Change anyone's name, email, Notion user or profile.
  • Turn the Technical contact flag on or off, either for other people or for themselves.

Other technical notices

Technical contacts are also who certain notices are sent to, such as the Substack reconnection notice if your account publishes newsletters with it. If nobody has the flag, those notices go to the Owner.

How to mark someone

Only the Owner can do this.

  1. Go to Settings → Team and click the person's row.
  2. Tick the Technical contact checkbox.
  3. Click Save.

The person needs a WorkOS user linked for the checkbox to appear. If they don't see the change right away, they need to sign out and sign back in.

Tip: if you're the Owner and need Notion databases, mark yourself as a Technical contact on your own Team row.
