1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser. It is used to remember information between pages or visits: that you are signed in, which language you want the interface in or, if you allow it, how the site is used so we can improve it. Alongside cookies there are equivalent technologies (browser local storage, pixels); when this policy says "cookies" it refers to all of them.

2. Which sites this covers

Befocusy has three separate sites, and they do not all use the same cookies. The distinction matters because what is stored in your browser depends on where you are:

3. On the WorkOS platform (labs.befocusy.com)

The platform sets the cookies strictly necessary for it to work and those that remember your language preference, which are exempt from consent. It also uses Google Analytics, and its cookies are only set if you accept them in the notice on your first visit: if you reject them, or close the notice without choosing, none are set. Inside the application, once you have signed in, we do not measure what you do with your work.

4. On the commercial website (befocusy.com)

The commercial website uses Google Analytics as its only statistics system, with the same measurement ID as the platform. Its analytics cookies are only set if you accept them. Alongside them there may be strictly necessary cookies from the hosting itself (load balancing, security), which identify no one and require no consent.

5. On the campus (befocusy.com/campus)

The campus runs on WordPress with TutorLMS. It uses the WordPress technical cookies and those TutorLMS needs to remember your enrolment and progress while you are inside: without them you could not follow a course. Google Analytics also measures the campus, and only if you have accepted analytics cookies.

6. Google Analytics

It is the only measurement system we use, and only on befocusy.com and its campus. We use it to know which pages are visited and from where, in aggregate: we do not use it for advertising or to build individual profiles, and we do not combine that data with your WorkOS account. The provider is Google Ireland Limited; transfers outside the European Economic Area may occur, covered by the European Commission standard contractual clauses. You can prevent measurement by rejecting analytics cookies, or by installing the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

7. Newsletter

Our newsletters are sent with Substack. Sending email does not set cookies in your browser: what a newsletter may include are open markers and tracking links inside the message itself, which tell us in aggregate whether it was read. You can prevent this by blocking image loading in your email client, and unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of every newsletter.

8. How to accept, reject or change your mind

On your first visit to any of our sites you will see a notice where you can accept or reject analytics cookies. You can change your choice at any time from the Cookie settings link in the footer. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it directly as a rejection and do not ask you. You can also always delete or block cookies from your browser:

Bear in mind that blocking technical cookies will prevent you from signing in or following a course.

9. Changes to this policy

If we add, remove or change cookies, we will update this page and its date. For the processing of personal data in general, see our privacy policy.
