The Board: assigning projects to team members

The Board is a scope of Projects and services designed for distributing work. It shows one column per person with the projects they are in charge of, and lets you change a project's assignee by dragging its card to another column.

Who sees it

• Only the Owner and the Technical contacts. A Supervisor or a Member does not see the Board button.
• It only appears if your account uses the Team database as the Assignee of Projects. If it doesn't, the button is not shown.

What it shows

Above the board there is a search box and a Status filter (a selector with a search box). Below them, the columns:

• No owner — the first one, with a yellow background. It gathers the projects that do not have an assignee yet, usually the older ones.
• One column per person — one for every team member who is Owner, Technical contact or Supervisor. They are sorted alphabetically and each shows the person's name, their role (if the Supervisor role has a custom name in your account, you will see that name) and how many projects they have.
• Other owners — at the end, only if there are projects whose assignee is none of those people (for example, a Member). That way no project is hidden.

Each card shows only the project name and, below it, the linked company, in a different colour. The project Type does not appear as a label: it colours the card, so it takes up less space. If you hover over the card, you see the name of the type.

Completed and discarded projects do not appear on the Board, nor do those in a status marked as personal. If there are many, the first 500 are shown and a notice invites you to use the search or the filter.

How to assign a project

1. Drag the project's card to the column of the person who will be its assignee.
2. Drop it. You will see the notice "Assigned to…" and the card moves to that column right away.

If the server doesn't allow the change, the card goes back to where it was and an error notice appears. You cannot drop a card on No owner or on Other owners: removing a project's assignee is not done from here.

Click a card (without dragging) to open the project.

When there are many people

On desktop screens, if there are more than four people columns, each column is split into two halves and each half holds one person. The board always takes the height of the window and each block has its own scroll, so less horizontal scrolling is needed. With four people or fewer, each one takes a whole column. The No owner column always takes the full column.

Tip: arrows and a fade appear at the edges of the board when there are more columns off screen. You can also scroll with the mouse wheel.
