How to use your own domain to access WorkOS
By default you reach WorkOS through its standard address. With a custom domain you can use an address of your own, such as app.yourcompany.com. This setting is account-wide and only the Owner can change it.
How to turn it on
- Go to Settings → Custom domain.
- Type the domain you want to use. A subdomain is the usual choice, like the example
app.yourcompany.com. - Click Save.
- WorkOS shows you a record to add in your domain's DNS settings: "Add this CNAME record to your domain's DNS settings". Create it wherever you manage your domain, or ask whoever administers it.
- Click Verify now once you've added it.
Which statuses you'll see
- "Waiting for DNS to resolve to our server.": the record hasn't propagated yet. DNS changes can take a while; click Verify now again after a bit.
- "DNS detected — waiting for the security certificate.": almost there; WorkOS is preparing the secure connection.
- "Domain active.": you can use it now (you'll see "Domain activated!").
- "The domain could not be activated.": check that the record is correct and verify again.
WorkOS only activates the domain when it really responds over a secure connection.
What changes once it's active
Your team can sign in through your own address. In addition, the links WorkOS generates for sharing, such as the client portal one, go out with your domain: your clients see an address of your company.
How to remove it
Click Remove custom domain and confirm. You'll go back to accessing through WorkOS's standard address.
Tip: take your time and let your team know before removing it, so nobody keeps using the old address saved in their bookmarks.
