How to import documents and audio into the Digital Garden as notes

With Import documents you can turn files you already have into notes in the Digital Garden, without writing them by hand. Artificial intelligence writes them up for you.

Before you start

Both options need Google Drive connected, with a Root folder chosen, in Settings → Integrations. Without it, WorkOS tells you that Google Drive is not configured.

Which files it accepts

PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Markdown and audio (mp3, m4a, wav, ogg…). Audio files can't exceed 25 MB.

Option 1: upload files

  1. Click Import documents and choose Upload documents.
  2. Drag your files to the marked area, or click to choose them. You can upload several at once.
  3. Click Process.

You'll see a message like "The import has started in the background".

Option 2: from a Google Drive folder

Pick a folder you already have in Drive.

  1. Click Import documents and choose Choose a Drive folder.
  2. Pick the Drive (My Drive or another shared drive) and browse its folders to the one you want.
  3. Click Choose this folder.

The supported files that are directly inside the folder are imported, without going into subfolders. The original file is not moved or deleted from Drive.

What you get

Each file becomes a new note with a title, an icon, its topics (and which one is the main one) chosen by the AI, a complete summary of the content and the original file attached. For audio files, what is said is transcribed first and the note is written from that transcript.

Everything happens in the background: it may take a few minutes, and you can close the screen or keep working. The notes will appear by themselves as they are completed.

Common problems

  • "Unsupported format" — only the types above are accepted.
  • "Audio cannot exceed 25 MB" — use a shorter audio file or compress it.
  • "Those documents had already been imported" — imports already done are not duplicated.
  • "No supported document was found in that folder" — the files must be directly in the chosen folder, not in a subfolder.
  • "Google Drive is not configured for this customer." — connect Drive and choose the root folder in Settings → Integrations.
  • "Could not read Google Drive" — you may need to reconnect your Google account.

Tip: for a single short idea, creating the note by voice is usually faster. Importing is for material that already exists in a file.
