Who sees a project: assignee, participants and scope

In WorkOS every project has a person as its Assignee and, if your account has it turned on, other people who participate in it. That decides which projects you see.

Setting the assignee and participants

From the project's detail page:

• Assignee — the main person in charge. You choose them in its selector.
• Other participants — the rest of the people involved. They show up as chips: click + Add participant to add someone, and remove the chip to take them out. This section only appears if your account has it set up.

The three scopes in Projects

Above the listing you choose which projects you want to see:

• My projects — the ones where you are the assignee. This is the scope that opens by default.
• Where I participate — the ones that belong to someone else but where you appear as a participant. You'll only see this tab if your account has the participants relation turned on. If you don't participate in any, it tells you so with a message.
• From others — all the projects of the rest of the team. This tab is only visible to the Owner of the account.

The search box, Kanban and List all respect the scope you have active.

If you try to open a project that isn't yours

If you are neither its assignee nor a participant, and you aren't the Owner, WorkOS won't let you open it and shows the message "You don't have permission to view this project". That's expected: each person sees their own work and the projects they take part in, not all of the company's work.

How to let someone see a project

If you want a colleague to see a project that is yours, add them as a participant. From then on the project appears in their Where I participate tab.
