How to link contacts, companies, projects and documents
The CRM becomes more useful when everything is connected: each contact with its company, and both with the projects and documents of your work. Links can be created from either side.
From a contact to its company
On a contact's detail page, the Company field is a selector with a search box. Pick the company (or clear it to unlink). The company name is a link that opens its detail page. This field only appears if your account uses Companies.
From a company to its contacts
On a company's detail page, open the Contacts tab:
- Link contact — pick one that already exists and doesn't have a company yet.
- + New contact — creates one that's already linked.
- The cross (×) next to a contact unlinks it, without deleting it.
Projects and services
On a contact, the Related projects and services tab has two buttons:
- + Link project or service — for one that already exists.
- + New project or service — to create one that's already linked. It only appears if your account allows creating projects from here.
On a company, that same tab only offers + New project or service (if your account allows it). To link an existing project to a company, do it from the project's own detail page.
On a contact, the projects that reach it through its company appear with the label Through the linked company, and they can't be unlinked from there.
Documents
The Documents tab of a detail page gathers the linked documents, for example through their projects. On a company or a contact you can use Link document and + New document, but those buttons appear depending on how your administrator has set up the link between documents and the CRM.
Automatic links
If you link a contact to a project that already has a company assigned, the contact is automatically linked to that same company (if it didn't have one yet).
Tip: if a link button doesn't appear, it's almost always because that part isn't set up in your account. Ask your administrator to check it.
